Would be interesting to see how Sony would win a battle that not even Apple could win.
i believe the only reason that was true was cause apple locked to only what 2 carriers in each country ? (im not 100% on that)
but sony will definitely not be locked. if it is, it will easily be unlocked, most likely gonna be using a sim, not online activation like the dickwads at apple.
my mistake
“while a copyright owner might try to restrict the programs that can be run on a particular operating system, copyright law is not the vehicle for imposition of such restrictions.”
from a news article, and somewhere in the news article it said jailbreaking was legal, so i dont know how the **** sony is getting away with attempting to sue geohot =\. as it IS the same thing as with the iphone.

I highly doubt GeoHot will be able to root it before someone else in the Android Dev community. Most Handsets are rooted several days before release.

Then you obviously don't know anything about Sony Ericsson phones. My Xperia x10 has been out since last march and the bootloader is still locked!! The best minds at XDA haven't been able to figure it out. Have a look through their discussion thread. They hit brick wall after brick wall. That's why Geohot just went out and bought one. This phone is one absolutely amazing piece of hardware, and it's got security almost as good as PS3's. Plus, Sony has openly admitted their whole xperia line has similar encryption, so if he can get the x10 done before the play is out he'll at least know where to start, and maybe he will even just be able to port everything directly over. Seems to me he's hoping the encryption is exactly the same...if so he may have everything on the Play unlocked weeks before it's out!! But as I said above, and occurrence like that is extremely rare for Sony's handsets. If he can pull it off, this dude deserves a job working for our nation's security lmao
