I just bought myself a legit-looking controller off of eBay for $12. Of course it's fake, I'm not stupid. But at such a low price, it begs the question, why would I pay top dollar, meaning anywhere around $60, for an official sony-branded PS3 controller when I could just buy a fake one that gets the job done for a fraction of the cost?

So what do you guys think? Is it worth it, or did I just throw away my hard-earned cash for a hunk of junk?

+REP ME IF I WAS HELPFUL
Thanks, Uncharted.
So does anyone have any thoughts on this? I've purchased numerous fake goods over the internet but I've never bought a fake PS3 controller. Although one time, I bought a fake Wii remote for $10 and other than stickier buttons, I couldn't tell it apart from the real ones other than the buttons having a slightly "sticky" feel to them. Nonetheless, the difference was very subtle. I saw some videos on YouTube, but the reviews were mixed.

Legit dualshock3 controllers are 30$ to 40$ I'm seeing right now on ebay...
to code your links, click edit, go advanced and do this:
Spoiler:
$40 is still relatively pricey. I can buy 3-4 fake ones for that price.

It depends on what type of gamer you are I guess... For example if you play a lot of fighting games where you need a good D-pad and the buttons should be really responsive then I wouldn't really recommend those even at that price. The fake controllers usually tend to have sharper edges and some of them have those annoying soft buttons that you can stuck under the controllers housing. They feel cheaper in general. Also, there was an issue with fake ps3 controllers that looked just like the original ones (sony logo and everything, you couldn't really distinguish them) after a certain firmware update that rendered them not usable anymore, at least without an USB cable I believe, so be aware that this could happen again.
But other than that they can be pretty decent depending on the producer, what sort of games you play and even personal preference.
Keep in mind that this'll be my second controller, my first being the official one that came with my PS3. Hence, I won't be using it nearly as much as my other one. I'll probably just keep it around for friends whenever we're craving for some split-screen Call of Duty. xD

Saw those on ebay for about 16 bucks and they looked alright, but then i saw some official looking fake ones for about 10 bucks more and decided to go for that one instead.
hope it was worth it. but i will see in a week or twos time.
Sony blocked the "official-looking" counterfeits due to claims of explosions and battery leakage, which, by the way, I think is utter nonsense. So, in short, they won't work unless they're wired controllers (or if you hook them up to your PS3 with a mini-usb cable).
