So today dies my favorite car company General Motors. My favorite because when I think of an american car, I think of a corvette, or a 1957 Chevy Nomad, or the most patriotic american car... the Hummer. Now this has me asking, what the hell am I going to get to look forward to when I pick my retirement car when the kids are out of the house. Instead of my childhood dream of owning a new corvette or a new hummer, I will have to look at cars from overseas that I really don't care that much about.
What I really wonder is, who is going to make the army their trucks now. When I was in the army I drove around in more hummers than I can count and many soldiers respect the quality that go into the making of these fine crafted pieces of machinery. Will we have to look to ford to make a sturdy rugged beast like the hummer is? No offense to ford lovers out there, but they can't build a machine that can take the punishment the army puts out. I can see a Ford falling apart before it even makes it overseas. I hope whoever gets the military contract realizes that this machine they will make will have to be more dependable than any other machine ever made.
Every since I can recall the only cars I've ridden around in were either a chevy or a pontiac (like my current car). It will be a shame that no longer can I shop for the same brands anymore in the new car lots. I'm sure if ford went down like GM did, I would still feel bad for the many ford lovers out there. They are very much in love with their cars, and I see why. They aren't bad, but to me, nothing will ever beat a chevy.
