***TEXT TUTORIAL***

Well i've been messing with skyrim mods and i found a few good tutorials to get mods to work on the pc and a couple claiming that any texture mod would work which is sort of correct, any texture mod will work but will most likely require some messing with and i've found no tutorials or info anywhere saying exactly how to save a texture so that it can be loaded with no problems but it's actually pretty easy to do. basically to get textures to work they must be opened with Paint.NET and saved as a DXT1 .dds file with the Generate Mip Maps option enabled and the width and height must be multiples of 8 or 32 for example commonly textures are 256x256 512x512 or 1024x1024 some uncommon ones i've seen were 256x8 or 256x16 the lower the number the lower the resolution but they height and width can be different for example it can be 256x512 512x1024 or even 256x1024 as long as both the width and height are multiples of 8 or 32. If people want me t ill make a better tutorial with pictures and steps but it's pretty easy to do. atm i have some pretty sick armours my favorite being the DMC4 Dante Infernal Demon Armour which i put a pic of below. So long story short yes any mod with custom meshes and textures will work! Hell even scripts work the only thing i have found so far that i can't get to work are animations but i'm not to worried about them. Post here if you need help making mods work and i'll help get it working.

Here is a short tutorial to get texture mods working.

Open you backup folder for Skyrim in GAMES or GAMEZ or where you put your backups and go to the USRDIR/DATA folder texture, mesh, script, and basically all other mods go here in their corresponding folders (i'll get to that in a minute). So if you've been messing with mods you probably already know .ESP and .ESM files are put in the DATA folder and added to the SKYRIM.INI and they will load .BSA files also load to if added to the .ini but textures might not work because they have to be changed the way i posted. If you have a texture mod that's not in a .BSA then it will have folders and will most likely already be in a data folder in the .rar or .zip files its in if not it will just be a TEXTURES folder. So to get the textures to load go ahead and extract the mod to a new folder and rename all the files and folders to capitals. It is essential to do this or they will not be loaded. You can use a program to do this i use Advanced Renamer just google it. After all files and folders are renamed to capitals copy DATA folder from your mod and merge it with skyrims DATA folder or if you don't have a DATA folder for your mod copy the TEXTURES, MESHES, SCRIPTS, SOUND, INTERFACE, SEQ and any other folders your mod has to your skyrim DATA folder and they will load. To get the textures from .BSA files working you must unpack and repack them with BSABrowser and BSACmd i posted a tutorial for that below.

To start download Paint.net from the link above and for this tutorial i'm using The Gemstone Collector mod which adds a bunch of collectable gems and armours/weapons that can be crafted from the gems. It's the same for any mod they will have either a DATA folder or TEXTURES, MESHES and other folders which go into the Skyrim data folder as explained above.

Now go into the textures folder and find a texture you want to make work for this im using "agate.dds" open it in Paint.net and if it is not a multiple of 8 or 32 as explained above I.E. 256x518, 256x8, etc. then you must resize it to the closest size most armour/weapons will already be correctly sized but misc. items might not be. To resize it simply click Image then Resize or push Ctrl+R. Make sure Maintain Aspect Ration is unchecked.

Now all you have to do is save them. Hit File then Save or push Ctrl+S. Copy my settings in the picture when you save it and I also listed the correct settings above. Make sure It is DXT1 and Generate Mini-Maps IS CHECKED!

Now that the texture is the correct size and format all you have to do is repeat that for every texture and they will load. Now onto the next step renaming ever file to capitals. I used Advanced Renamer you can use something else if you want.

For advanced renamer open it and hit "Add Method" then "New Case"

Then for the options set it to "Set Upper Case" and "Apply To Name And Extension"

Now it is set to rename files to all capitals and this setting will be saved so you don't have to do it again. Now you have to highlight all the folders and files you want to rename and drag them onto Advanced Renamer and it will come up with an option to "Add Files In The Folders" or "Add The Folders" for now do "Add Files In The Folders" we'll do the folders after.

Now you will see all the files in the program with their names in one row and their capitalized names in the other row. Now in the top right click "Start Batch" then hit start and your done renaming the files now onto the folders.

Now you have to rename the folders to capitals. Hightlight and drag all folders onto the program and this time hit "Add The Folders" when it asks. Make sure "Add The Root Folders" and "Add Subfolders" are both selected and hit ok.

Now after all the folders are added hit "Start Batch" again then hit "Start"

Advanced Renamer has a problem renaming folders it will rename all folders that don't have folders in them but if they have a folder in them then they won't be renamed and will show up on the error list these folders have to be renamed manually.

To rename folders easily you can either use a different program or to do it manually instead of right-clicking it and hitting rename you can just click it and hit F2 and it will let you rename it.

Now that all files are renamed to capital and the correct format they can be transfered to Skyrims DATA folder. Any "loose files" which are files in subfolders of the DATA folder NOT .BSA or .ESP or .ESM files will load automatically without any Skyrim.ini editing needed. Just Ftp to your Skyrim DATA Folder i use Filezilla to Ftp and pull over everything in your DATA folder into theirs I.E. your TEXTURES, MESHES, SCRIPTS, SOUND, INTERFACE, etc..

YOUR ALL DONE!!! Congratulations you now have working texture mods. Let me know if you have any trouble getting them to work I have quite a few atm and I know any texture will load if saved correctly and placed in the correct folder and i have Skyrim Legendary Edition with all 3 dlc's installed.

***BSA Tutorial***
***WITH .BSA FILES YOU DO NOT NEED TO RENAME ANYTHING EXCEPT THE .BSA FILE ITSELF TO CAPITALS***

Heres a tutorial for getting .BSA mod files working and how to extract them edit the textures and repack them correctly with the correct flags. You need BSACmd and BSABrowser from FOMM just google and download FOMM this link explains how to install it and use it with skyrim without the pc version of fallout--

Once FOMM is installed and working it .BSA files will be auto opened with BSA Browser if not just open FOMM hit "Tools" then "BSA Browser" and open your .BSA then hit "Extract All" and select the folder you want to extract them to.

Now just follow the tutorial to get the textures to work but ***WITH .BSA FILES YOU DO NOT NEED TO RENAME ANYTHING EXCEPT THE .BSA FILE ITSELF TO CAPITALS*** keep the names the way their were when extracted. Now that the textures are fixed you must repack the .BSA using BSACmd.

To repack .BSA start by opening BSACmd and click the "Pack" button. Then click the "..." next to "Archive Dir" and Pick the folder you want to save you .BSA in.

Now click the "..." next to "Source Dir" and select the folder you extracted you .BSA in the folder selected must be the one containing your meshes, textures, scripts, etc. folders.

Now click the "?" next to "Files Flags (hex)" these options are important check whatever boxes you have files of. If you have meshes you have .nif files if you have textures you have .dds files these are the only two i've had to use so far if you have any files that aren't on the list just ignore them their fine.

Now set "Archive Flags (hex) to "00000003" honestly i don't know what this is but i know that .BSA files only seems to work for the PS3 when this is set to "00000003"

Now click "Pack" and let it pack it.

Now the textures in .BSA file work all thats left is renaming it to capitals and hex editing one small number. Change it to capitals now.

Now for making the .BSA work on the PS3 you have to open it in a Hex editor i use HxD Hex Editor you can download it from the link above.

Now that it's open i na Hex editor just highlight the 5th byte which will be under "04" because it starts with "00" and it will be "67" you must highlight it and change it to "68"

Now save it and your done with that .BSA just copy it over to Skyrims DATA folder and add it into the Skyrim.ini

***Adding .ESP, .ESM, and .BSA files to the Skyrim.ini***

Now that you've fixed your .BSA textures to work adding it to the Skyrim.ini is pretty easy just open your Skyrim.ini and add your .ESP to the "sTestFile#=" list. Some information it starts at "sTestFile2=" and ends with "sTestFile10="
***DO NOT USE "sTestFile1=" THIS IS FOR SKYRIM.ESM AND WILL CAUSE YOUR GAME TO NOT LOAD***

Now add your .BSA file at the end of "sResourceArchiveList=" make sure you put a "," after the last file already in their but theirs no "," after the last file you put. Now everything is done and should load correctly.
