    Default ESR Difficulties

    Hey
I have a Jak X iso. On the compatibility list, it is 100% compatible with ESR. I have burnt it using the software they suggest at the speed they suggest. When I put the disc in and boot up FMCB and ESR, the options given are Launch CDVD, Launch APP, and Launch OSDSYS, with three buttons underneath saying Disable ESR after first IOP Reset, Use Synchronous Mode, and Spoof Media Type.
I usually do not select anything but Launch CDVD, with gives me a black screen with the disc spinning, but nothing even after 30 minutes. Just a blank black screen.
I burnt my Jak X iso twice, both with ImgBurn, at 8x speed. I use memorex dvd+r. The Status at the bottom of the screen says "UNKNOWN MEDIA IN DRIVE...". Any ideas as to what is wrong?

Edit: I've also attempted to burn Ape Escape 2, also compatible with ESR, to the same media at 8x with Alcohol 120%. Same status result, same blank black screen.
I'm sure everything is properly installed, I mailed it to someone at psx-scene and he installed it on my mem card for me. Softmod, not hardmod.
    Edit2: More info to help. I have a fat PS2 SCPH-3000X. ESRv8b.

Are you patching the ISOs before you burn them? Try burning a 4x, if it still doesn't work try using DVD-R.

    I am patching the isos.
I went and bought Verbatim 16x DVD-R from my local bestbuy, and I burnt Ape Escape 2 on it, and my ESR still spends a lot of time detecting the disk so I went ahead and started without it detecting. Still a blank black screen. Could it be something wrong with the mem card? It doesn't run FMCB automatically, I have to hold R1 down when booting up to get into it if that's an issue.

I've never heard of having to hold R1 to run FMCB, normally holding it at start up will run uLaunchELF. Try formatting and reinstalling FMCB on your memory card. You also might try running ESR from a USB stick. It also might be a problem with your laser, you should try cleaning it.

I have fixed my FMCB issue, and my ESR now detects that I am using a PS2DVD when burnt at 16x on verbatim DVD-R media. However, upon selecting to run the media my screen flashes three seperate colors twice in a pattern, then goes black and the disc stops spinning. I'm burning at different speeds as I write, but if that doesn't work then I'm stuck.

Probably a problem with your PS2's laser, or maybe your computer's laser.

Can it be a laser issue if it reads official media perfectly? And everything else my computer burns (its brand new) runs perfect? (DVDs, CDs, etc)

Well it's probably not the computer, but the PS2 laser can have a lot of problems reading backups even though it can still read originals fine if it's dirty or out of alignment or starting to die. Have you tried cleaning it? You also might try using ESRv9b.

You could skip disk loading completely and switch to USB or network loading via OpenPS2Loader. Just a suggestion.
