Thread: Complete tutorial for Custom Boot Screen (coldboot.raf)

You know when you turn on your ps3, and you see the "PS3" logo?
Well guess what? You can change that logo! It's kinda hard to do it, so if you wanna do it yourself, fine, google it. But if you don't, I'm taking requests!!

Edit them using photoshop or paint or any software you want.

and I'll reply to your message with an attachement called "coldboot.raf".
Install dev_blind on your ps3 and mount it then copy coldboot.raf to dev_blind:\vsh\resource!
REMEMBER: there is already a file called "coldboot.raf" there, so I'd suggest making a backup of it, then replacing it with the custom!
NOTE: all pictures will appear black and white on ps3, so try not to add color to the pics up.
NOTE: This does not work on Rebug CFW 3.55.

Update: Since a lot of people are wanting a tutorial for doing this alone, I said "What the heck? Let's do it ".

Requirements:
-Adobe Photoshop CS2-CS3-CS4-CS5
-Winrar
-SimplyZip (Google it, very easy to download and free full version)

Steps:
1- After downloading the Photoshop plugin, install it. it's very easy, put any email in it.
2- After downloading the Custom Boot files, extract it (rar) to the desktop.
3- In the folder, go to Boot Logo's (dds's) and edit every dds file with photoshop. When you save it, you will have a box. make these settings:

NOTE:
-If you want to edit with Paint, open it with photoshop, click on Save As bitmap image, and open it with paint and edit it, then open the custom bmp with photoshop and save it as DDS back.
-No colored boots, they will all appear black and white.
-Do NOT rename the images and they should ALL be in DDS.

4- After editing all DDS files, Select them all (in the folder but don't select the "Save Settings.jpg" and "dds2gtf.exe") and drag the DDSs to the dds2gtf.exe
5- Wait for 3 seconds and the GTF files will be created. Go back the the Boot Logo Creator folder, and open Coldboot Creator, and follow the steps
In Step 3, the coldboot.raf will be created.

Instead of Install dev_blind, why not use Cyberskunk's Coldboot Installer v1.0?
It does backups and restores coldboot.raf/AC3 files and installs custom .raf and .ac3 files.

i agree. it only took me 2 mins to install my logo and login music as well.
